27 Great Ways to Come Up With Real Estate Ideas for Blog Posts

There are thousands of ways that you can market your real estate business to gain the attention of buyers that want to buy and sellers that want to sell.

With the recent surge of people jumping on social media, many real estate agents and brokers have totally missed out on search engine optimization benefits because they moved away from blogging and content creation. As time moves forward is actually going to be more important than ever for you as a real estate agent to be able to bring unique and valuable content and ideas to the eyes of your potential clients.

Yes, you can share real estate information, but there is some very unique benefits to being able to share your own real estate information.

I think that most real estate agents want to create content that is valuable to their readers, but gets stuck trying to find ideas to write about.

1. Use Personal Hobbies to Your Advantage

If you have certain hobbies, you may enjoy reading articles about them online. Consider creating posts that discuss some of the things you have just discovered and how they relate to your specific industry in one way or another.   You don’t have create content about real estate.   You can talk about mountain biking, shopping, restaurants, and anything else that would be interesting to people to live in your community.

2. Check Out a Few Good Books

Have a list of real estate related reading material? Some of the items on your list may include non-fiction pieces. The information that you find inside of them may inspire you to come up with creative real estate blog posts.

Along with reading through each book, check out the titles of some of the different chapters. Those titles may give you an even better idea of the different posts you want to create.

3. Get Help From Friends and Colleagues

Struggling to come up with the right ideas on your own? Consider asking your friends or even a few family members to help you out.

Having a bunch of different people who have their own perspectives may truly help you accomplish something great. After one group meeting, you may have a full list of topics to start writing about.

4. Look at Old Posts

How long have you been writing online? If it is something you have done for years, consider going back to some of your oldest posts to get inspiration from them. You may be able to completely revise them and turn them into new and unique pieces of content.

5. Associate Words With Topics

What are some of the words that remind you of the specific industry you write about each day? Jot down a few of those words and then think of different topics that you could use that would include those words. Taking this kind of approach may help you develop various angles.

6. Try Using a Search Engine

Go on Google and type in a few industry-related words into the search box to see what comes up. You may find a number of topics, questions that people have asked and other sources of information that would give you some fresh content ideas.  This is great for keyword research for real estate SEO.

7. View the Latest News Stories

Some stories on the news may relate to your industry. Even if they are not directly related, there may be a way for you to tie those stories into your content to engage readers a bit more. ie: “Why Kim Kardashian Would Love To Live In Memphis”

8. Go for a Change of Scenery

You may not feel too inspired if you are trying to come up with topics while sitting down at your desk in the office. A change of scenery could be just what you need. Go somewhere that inspires you the most, such as a local art museum or park.

9. Write What Comes to You

Grab a sheet of paper and a pencil. Sit down and just start writing a bunch of things that come to mind at that very moment. Do not erase anything. Instead, continue to write for about 30 minutes straight without stopping.

This specific method is known as free writing. You may not realize that you have all these good things to say until your start scribbling them down on paper.

10. Use Quora for Ideas

If you have never been on the website, Quora is the place where people go when they have a question to ask or an answer to provide. Use the site to look for topics that relate to the industry you are in and you may end up getting a few good ideas on what to write about, especially if you want to provide useful content to those who read your posts.

11. Start Researching Your Keywords

Even if you already have a list of keywords that relate to your local real estate market, take some time to discover new ones. There are always a few keywords that you might not know about, but as soon as you find them you can begin using them.

12. Get Specific

Come up with one main idea. Write that idea down and put a circle around it. Place lines around the circle and then add additional keywords that relate to the main topic. For example, if you chose home buyers as the main idea, additional keywords may include pre-approval and closing costs.

13. Give the Topic Generator a Try

Still struggling to come up with fresh ideas? There are some websites that provide topic generators. Simply add a few keywords and easily get a few new suggestions on what you should start writing about.

14. Learn From You Own Mistakes

Think of some of the mistakes you have made or previous clients have made and discuss them even further. Your readers may appreciate having a chance to learn more about your struggles and how you were able to overcome them.

15. Create a Spreadsheet for Topics

Whenever you come up with a topic that you think would interest your readers, type it into a spreadsheet. The spreadsheet is the perfect place to keep everything organized. And, you will always have it to look back on so that you do not end up repeating the same things.  You can create great spreadsheets in the cloud using Google docs.

16. Use Social Media Sites

Going on social media sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, may give you plenty of ideas. Use special features to find out more about what people are currently sharing and talking about on these websites. Topsy makes it even easier to find such information.

17. Make a Note of Good Ideas

Have you ever had a great idea come to mind while you were busy doing something else? If you did not think to write it down at that moment, you may have forgotten all about it. Anytime you have one of those great ideas, make sure to jot it down quickly on a sheet of paper or even type it into your phone so you will not forget.  You can also use Evernote.

18. Read Through Comments

What are people saying on your blog? If you get a lot of comments from your loyal readers, check them out. The comments and questions that people ask may give you the motivation to come up with a few new topics to write on.

19. Give the Medici Effect a Try

Some people prefer to use the Medici Effect. If you do not know how to use it, simply think of real estate and some of the different topics that relate to it in an unusual way. You may come across articles that do not seem like they relate to your business, but after reading them you realize that there are ways to include what you have just learned into fresh content for your own readers.

20. Find Out What Your Competitors Are Doing

It never hurts to see what the competition is doing. Check out some of the posts that are currently trending. Read through these articles and get some inspiration for your next posts.

Never copy the content. Instead, use it as a starting point. Your post should expand on the topic and provide even more in-depth information so that it is better than the original the piece.  You can use BuzzSumo to see trending stories.

21. Write Out Dozens of Headlines

Are you ready to truly start challenging yourself? Set a goal to write down at least 50 headlines before getting up and doing something else.

Of course, it may not be the easiest task. However, once you have those 50 headlines written down, you will have a bunch of ideas. You may need to make adjustments and edit them a bit until they are perfect, but at least you will have something to go on.

22. Keep Copies of You Rough Drafts

You may compose several rough drafts before finalizing the piece and perfecting it. Make sure to keep copies of those drafts. If you found yourself getting off topic in one of your posts, you may have removed that section from your finished piece. The part that you removed may be used in a different article that you create at some point in the future.

23. Set a Deadline for Yourself

If you do not have a deadline, you may slack a bit, but you do not have that kind of time to waste. Treat yourself like a private client and set a deadline. Make sure that you stick to it and have your work completed by then.

24. Ask Your Clients Questions

Your content should always have something to offer to your clients. With that said, it may be in your best interest to ask them questions and even interview a few of them. It would give you an idea of what your future clients want to learn more about and what they would like to see from you.

25. Go to a Conference

There may be more real estate marketing and informational conferences going on than you realize. Want to know exactly what is going on within real estate and within your city? Set keywords on Google Alert to ensure that you always receive the latest information via email.

27. Come Up With Questions

Do you have your own set of questions that you would like to find the answers to? Write each question down, do some research and then consider writing out posts that provide the answers.
